"Mombasa - City under the Tusks"
Description and Price
For the start of your Mombasa City Tour, our driver will comfortably pick you up from your hotel in the early morning at 7:30am. After safely arriving in Mombasa City, we visit Fort Jesus, which was built by the Portuguese in 1593. Entering the fort and looking at its ancient architecture and weaponry is like traveling back in time yourself. Competent local guides will inform you about the history of the fort and the city as as whole. Mixing ancient ways with modernity, we visit the local Jewelry Shops and the Town’s famous Old Market, which is loaded with piles of all imaginable types of spices.
After our journey through the Old Market, we drive to Moi Avenue and see the Elephant Tusks, Mombasa’s iconic landmark. After that, we visit the Indian Temple and learn more about Indian religious practice. You may choose to go inside the temple and witness the ongoing prayers. After having been blessed by the gods, we proceed to the Akamba Wood Carvers Village. Here you can observe the local people’s talent in creating any sculpture or shape out of a sole piece of raw wood. It is possible to buy the amazingly beautiful objects of art in the show room close by.
After an energizing lunch, we head to Mombasa’s Haller Park. Here you can feed the Giraffes with your hands, see Aldabra Tortoises which are over 300 years old, visit the local Snake Park and take a look at Crocodiles, Fish, Hippopotamus, Buffaloes, Oryx, different types of birds and many additional species. After Haller Park, we drive through Mama Ngina Park where we make a break to enjoy a nice view over the Indian Ocean. We safely arrive back at your hotel in the evening hours. Your trip ends here, but you return home with loads of beautiful impressions, that’s for sure!
