Day 1: Mombasa/Diani – Tsavo East National Park

Our exclusive Combination Safari in Kenya starts offf with our driver comfortably picking you up from your hotel at 6:30am in the early morning. We then start of together to Tsavo East National Park, where we arrive in time for a spectacular morning game drive with chances to spot Red Elephants, Lions, Buffaloes, Hippos, Giraffes, Gazelles, Waterbucks, Leopards, Zebras and an abundance of bird species. Game spotting in Tsavo East is usually fast and easy. After the morning game drive, we check in at our accommodation for lunch. We have time to relax and dip into the inviting swimming pool, then head for an exciting game viewing trip in the late afternoon.

There are many fascinating aspects to observe in the open areas of Tsavo East, such as the Yatta Plateau, one of the world’s longest lava flows. An additional attraction is the Athi River flanked by stately Doum palms which, near the Manyani gate, forms the Lugard Falls, a long stretch of rippling white-water cataracts and a favorite haunt for sunbathing Crocodiles.

Day 2: Tsavo East National Park – Tsavo West National Park

After an exciting early morning game drive, we enjoy a full breakfast at our accommodation before we head to Tsavo West National Park. When we travel west, Tsavo shows us a different face. The landscape is much more hilly; numerous volcanic craters rise from the plains. Fields of lava remind us of long-ago eruptions. The fauna of Tsavo West is very rich, besides the Big Five the park is home to further numerous species. Given the rich vegetation, the animals can be tricky to spot at times. This should not discourage you, but in fact can make your safari experience even more exciting. The reward is worth the extra patience!

After a delicious lunch, we visit the park’s Rhino Sanctuary where Tsavo’s growing population of endangered Black Rhino is inching its way back from the chasm of extinction. Later, we start out on a game drive where we see Buffaloes, Elephants, Lions, Cheetahs, Giraffes and many more species. As the sun sets, we head back to our lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Tsavo West National Park – Amboseli National Park

On day three of our fabulous Combination Safari in Kenya, we enjoy a comfortable breakfast and continue our journey towards magical Amboseli National Park. On our way to Mzima Springs, where Hippos and Crocodiles can be watched from the safety of an underwater hide, we pass the impressive Shetani Lava Flow (“Shetani” means “devil” in Swahili). When the lava erupted some few hundred years ago, the locals thought that the devil himself was emerging from the earth.

On a clear we marvel at majestic Mount Kilimanjaro as we approach Amboseli, arriving at our lodge in perfect time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Amboseli is best known for its great herds of Elephants – you’ll often find plenty of them standing knee-deep in the water, spraying water, eating and bathing in the swamps to cool off. Predators stalk the herds of grazing animals, recreating the age-old drama of life and death under the African sun, in a setting so lushly beautiful.

Day 4: Amboseli National Park

We spend a whole day in Amboseli National Park, embarking on marvelous morning and afternoon game drives. This park is a genuine paradise for all sorts of stunning wildlife. Amboseli is Big Game Country. With a bit of luck, we come face-to-face with all of the BIG Five here. Mount Kilimanjaro provides the background scenery for our adventures in Amboseli. Anyone will agree it’s a one-of-a-kind experience to witness the exact moment in which the mountain emerges from the cloud layers into bright sunshine. Kilimanjaro dominates the landscape from every perspective, dwarfing even the park’s huge Elephants. Amboseli is a must-see and even experienced Safari adventurers enjoy returning here – stunningly beautiful wildlife against the background of Africa’s highest mountain is a picture no one gets ever tired of. We can also decide to visit a Maasai Village close-by and learn about the proud tribe’s rich culture and practices.

Day 5: Amboseli National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park

After a good night’s sleep, we rise from bed early for breakfast. Then we depart Amboseli for Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving in perfect time for a delicious lunch at our lodge. “Lake in pink” is probably the best way to describe Lake Nakuru. Up to two million Flamingos nest around its shores, giving the lake its rather unique colour. Sometimes the birds are present in such vast numbers that the lake’s surface can hardly be seen! The lake is home to more than 450 species of birds. There are no Elephants in the park, but in a spectacular afternoon game drive we can spot the other members of the Big Five, including tree-climbing Lions. Special attention is paid to a conservation area for White and Black Rhino. Towards the east of the lake, we take a look at Africa’s biggest Euphorbia forest, tall, cactus-like trees which are not only visually appealing, but are also providing a unique habitat for the park’s wildlife.

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park – Maasai Mara Game Reserve

On Day 6 of our wonderful Combination Safari in Kenya, we depart stunning Lake Nakuru for the famous Maasai Mara Game Reserve, the jewel among Kenya’s game reserves. The enormous reserve is actually part of the vast Serengeti plains and is well-known for its spectacular wildebeest migration. It is the true home of the BIG FIVE: Lion, Elephant, Leopard, Rhino and Cape Buffalo. Its name derives from the Maasai people, the ancestral inhabitants of the area, who still call the wide plains of Kenya and northern Tanzania home. As we travel through Maasai land, we occasionally come across a solitary Maasai Moran (=Warrior) standing on one foot while herding hundreds of cows, goats and sheep. His only defense against the dangerous wildlife surrounding him to all sides is a single stick or spear!

Upon arrival in the Maasai Mara, we comfortably take lunch at our camp before exploring the huge reserve on a late afternoon game drive. In the evening, we relax around the campfire and enjoy an excellent dinner.

Day 7: Maasai Mara Game Reserve

Embarking on magnificent morning and afternoon game drives, we spend a whole day viewing wildlife in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. The famous reserve has been the setting of the well-known movie ‘Out of Africa’. Its astonishing wildlife is the star of the show, providing drama and intrigue against the backdrop of a spectacular scenery. We definitely have good chances of encountering the “BIG FIVE” face-to-face: Lion, Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo and Leopard. Wildebeest (Gnus), Zebras, Cheetahs and Gazelles can also be easily spotted. We also look out for the great migration, a massive accumulation of 1.5 million Wildebeest, 200,000 Zebras and 350,000 Gazelles stretching their legs over 2000km in an annual race to find enough water and green grass for their survival. A trip to the Maasai Mara during the time of the great migration is surely an impression nobody can ever forget.

Day 8: Maasai Mara Game Reserve – Mombasa/Diani

After breakfast, we head to Nairobi for lunch. Our driver then safely transfers you to Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you board a flight back to Mombasa/Diani. In Mombasa/Diani, our driver already waits for you and brings you back to your hotel safely. Our stunningly beautiful Combination Safari in Kenya ends here, but you will take home a big bright smile and a lifetime of memories, that much is certain!
